High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center is an equine-assisted program based in Murphy, North Carolina. It offers therapeutic riding that adapts horseback riding to individual needs, building strength, balance, coordination and confidence. Recreational riding lessons are open to anyone over age 4 who wants to learn horse care, handling and riding. A 10-week veterans program focuses on horsemanship and riding. The center also serves as the training barn for the Cherokee and Clay counties Special Olympics Equestrian Team.
